Business Immigration to Canada is a hot topic in today’s economy. Canada is a country that welcomes foreign citizens with open arms and helps them to start a new life in their country of choice. Canadian immigration system allows foreign entrepreneurs, investors, start-uppers, and some categories of self-employed persons to obtain permanent residence in Canada.

Start-Up Visa

Start-Up Business Visa is a Business Immigration program for foreign entrepreneurs who want to settle in Canada. Business owners are eligible to obtain permanent residence in Canada if they have obtained a Letter of Support for their Start-Up Business from a designated business organization such as business incubators, venture capital funds, and angel investor groups.

One startup can include up to five key members who possess at least 10% of the shares. These Business Immigrants are allowed to bring their family members with them to Canada. PR under the Start-Up Visa program is unconditional.

Self-Employed Persons Program

The Self-Employed Persons Program is designed for people who want to live and work in Canada as self-employed persons. This program currently is intended only for two categories of immigrants: professional sportsmen and professional workers in cultural activities.

To be eligible, those candidates must be well known in their field, have extensive experience performing at an elite level, and have their professional activity as the main source of income.

Owner-Operator LMIA Business

In Canada, individuals from other countries can set up or start a business. A foreign national who becomes a Canadian business owner may apply for a work permit. Every Canadian company can apply for Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) if they cannot fill the position with a Canadian employee.

In such cases, business owners may be eligible to hire themselves to run their businesses. A Work permit supported by LMIA allows foreign entrepreneurs to obtain 200 points in the Express Entry. In turn, they can get enough points to apply for permanent residence in Canada if they meet other requirements and criteria.

At least 50.1 percent of the company’s shares must be owned by business owners, and they must have adequate operating capital to pay the foreign director to receive a positive LMIA from the government.

Intra-Company Transfer Business

Those who have established a business in their home country and work on a managerial or supervisory level can apply to set up a branch of their firm in Canada. The applicant must have at least one year of financial stability and be able to start a company in Canada.

The Intra-Company Transferees (ICT) can get a work permit in Canada. ICT facilitates the transfer of employees within one international company.
