Nova Scotia Nominee Program

The Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) is a program that aims to help prospective immigrants who have the skills and experience to boost the province’s economy. The criteria of one of nine different streams must be met in order for candidates to successfully complete this process, which has an average processing time of three months.

Why Nova Scotia?

The quality of life in Nova Scotia is something that North America should look up to. With work, family, relaxation and responsibility all having a place here, it’s easy for residents to keep everything in perspective.

NSNP streams

Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities

This stream selects candidates who meet Nova Scotia’s labour market needs. Applicants must receive a Letter of Interest from the Office of Immigration before applying to this program.

Labour Market Priorities for Physicians

The Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities stream for Physicians selects physicians to apply for nomination through the federal Express Entry system. Only candidates with an approved offer from the Nova Scotia Health Authority or IWK who receive a Letter of Interest from Immigration may apply.

The Physician Stream assists Nova Scotia’s public health authorities – the NSHA and IWK – to hire general practitioners, family physicians, and specialist physicians. The stream helps these two organizations to recruit doctors with the required skills for positions that cannot be filled by permanent residents or Canadian citizens.

The Entrepreneur Stream is for experienced business owners or senior business managers who want to live in Nova Scotia. To be eligible, applicants must own a company and actively manage it for at least one year before nomination by the province of Nova Scotia. The nomination may lead to permanent resident status.

International Graduate Entrepreneur

The International Graduate Entrepreneur Stream is for recent graduates of a Nova Scotia university or the Nova Scotia Community College. Graduates must have already started or bought a business and operated it in Canada for at least one year to be eligible.

International Graduates In Demand

The International Graduates in Demand stream is open to recent international graduates who have skills and education that match specific National Occupational Classification (NOC) job categories. There are currently 2 NOC jobs available for these candidates:

  • NOC 3413: nurse aides, orderlies, and patient service associates
  • NOC 4214: early childhood educators and assistants

Skilled Worker

The Skilled Worker stream allows employers to recruit foreign workers and recently graduated international students who can fill positions that they have been unable to. Employers must show proof of the skill shortage before hiring a non-permanent resident or citizen for their company, as these people are in high demand within Nova Scotia’s workforce.

Occupations in Demand

The Occupations in Demand stream targets specific NOC C and D occupations that are in high demand, based on labour market information. Eligible occupations may change over time to reflect the needs of employers across Nova Scotia.

Nova Scotia Experience: Express Entry

The Nova Scotia Experience: Express Entry stream selects highly skilled individuals who wish to live in Nova Scotia permanently. Applicants must have at least one year of experience working as a professional, technical or trade worker in the province and meet certain other requirements.
